1978 comes to an end as the crew looks at Super Breakout, APF MP-1000, Simon and the big news at Atari. Plus Roo’s Gaming Innovations and Pixel Dan’s Other Toys of 1978.

Much appreciated – we’re trying to get to a plan to push these out faster. We shortened the segments a bit in this part and we’re trying a few other things to make this work. May need more editors (Lance is doing the clean-up and prep across all the submitted videos and John is on the editing and tweaking — and he misses sleeping)

Love the show as always, but the greenscreen problems with the Simon kinda irked me a bit.

Yeah it got to me too – Damn Simon with its green button. We’ll fix it for the full length – it was unavoidable for this go at it. I didn’t want to delay the video any more. Had the same trouble with the Odyssey 2 box so we had to do a work around. That will be cleaned up too.

Yeah, I could see where you had thrown a non-keyed matte on Pat’s O2 box. The edges were visible at one small point. If you’re going through greenscreen fixes, I also noticed part of Dan’s shirt being semi-transparent. But kudos on these things. I hate keying greenscreens even when I’ve kept the shots at a consistent color & lighting. I can imagine the trouble you have with everyone sending you their separate footage.

Can’t wait for the full version. I’ll watch it on my ipod and have 45 minutes of exercise done without even realizing it.

Lance has taught me a trick of layering a non keyed video layer over the keyed video layer and cropping the layer to get to the section we need to stay green — still tricky as hell – but overall, we’re happy with how the look has turned out. Lots of clean up and little tweaks. We’ll just stop talking about things that are green.

i love this show, and i love the production values. its genuinely a tv quality show. however, and i really dont want to come across disrespectful or busting anyones chops here, but eric really lets the side down. i cant help but cringe watching his attempts to be funny. he doesn’t add anything (in my opinion) to this show of any considerable weight; unlike the others who contribute something worthwhile. joey is excellent, he is a genuinely well informed intelligent guy and that just comes through whenever i watch these videos. pat & ian are, again, very well informed and add something substantial and quirky to the show. the game chasers add their genuine knowledge and natural humor, and of course ito and john add more weight to the overall presentation.

just my opinion here guys, i enjoy how gamester81 contributes his extensive knowledge of uncommon consoles (hes certainly a great addition to the show). but eric doesent add anything of substantial worth. i know he will have his fans who will hate me for saying this, but its just my view.

i dont want to just troll the shit out of these videos and flame the small sections which irk me, but i wanted to give my thoughts on what slightly brings down (for me) what otherwise are, genuinely the best produced series of independent gaming topic videos on the web.

Anyway, I have remembered some of the toys and Simon. I always laugh at the story of Simon when Ralph Baer had his revenge against Atari.

Really enjoyed this, thanks for that first off!
But I noticed that you had some issues with the chroma key in the greenscreen scenes, f.e. the logo on Dans shirt or the green button of Simon. Maybe you should tell your comrads to avoid green at all cost ;P

That’s Derek and Calvin (Starship Amazing). They wrote that for The Video Game Years. We named it Retroware TV Theme 2012. The intro music is the old Retroware TV Theme (probably 2008-9) also done by Derek and Calvin.
