And it is exactly what I said it was…

It was announced today that SNK is officially bringing out a hand held device and it is called Neo-Geo X. It is not new hardware, it is an emulation device sponsored by SNK, much like what we have seen Sega do in the past. The system isn’t too far off the concept pictures we showed you months ago when the rumors started (though who knows if this is the final design). The system will come with a 3.5″ LCD screen, 20 built in games, A/V out, built in speakers, headphone out and an SD card slot. So it will be a pretty standard emulation handheld.

The built in games are as follows:

  • Art of Fighting
  • Baseball Stars
  • Cyber Lip
  • Fatal Fury
  • Fatal Fury Special
  • Football Frenzy
  • King of the Monsters
  • Last Resort
  • League Bowling
  • Magician Lord
  • Metal Slug
  • Mutation Nation
  • Nam 1975
  • Samurai Shodown
  • Sengoku
  • Super Sidekicks
  • The King of Fighters ‘94
  • The Ultimate 11
  • Top Players Golf
  • World Heroes

The device should be out sometime in Q2 of 2012 and no price point has been announced. Since most of these are around $50 we should assume it would be around there. There are plenty of ways to emulate Neo Geo games so going too much higher would be making this for a very niche collectors market. It is nice to see something new Neo-Geo even if it is just an emulation system.
