The Gaming Historian – Dreamcast

    dreamcast was great console

  • Setsae

I’d really like to know how many Dreamcast were sold in Europe. I assume it had a decent success, since network shut down 1 year later after USA’s. DC is like that damn fine girl you had a short relationship with; you don’t exactly remind why you break off and by the time you weren’t aware how much you were lucky to be by her side. Only years after you wonder how it could have turned out if you paid attention in its own right… In any case, to me, It was an exotic candy beyond my means. At that time, I was just a humble snes / playstation 1 player…

Nonetheless, I briefly had an occasion to enjoy this system (thanks to a benefactor who lent me it) with one and unique game: Tony Hawk pro Skater 2. And man, how much I loved it. The best fucking game of the whole franchise, which made me have esteem for skateboarding all by itself.
I finished it entirely and had to kiss DC good bye, one day. I still remember it fondly, along with its controller, a bless. Dreamcast is definitely the most underrated console of all time…

I got quite emotional about a console I never played or ever cared about thanks to your review! Now knowing more about it and how Sega went out, I really want to try this system out. As always, your vids are just pure excellence!

I own a dream cast i masturbat e with it

  • Devon

I remember I rented this system from blockbuster or something when I was younger and only played 3 games on it. A sonic game ( I never really liked sonic games) but liked the little chao raising and racing portion of it, that was cool. A fighting spawn game, it was badass, and grandia 2, one of my favorite games.

Sega dropping out of the hardware market was a huge blow to the industry.  Not that most consumers would know the difference, but Sega was an innovator in both hardware and software.  They made some bad decisions, sure, but you just don’t see ideas like theirs anymore.  Modern Sega is a mere shadow of what they once were.

I think everyone has a part in the downfall of the Dreamcast. Sony and the Playstation 2, Jaded gamers, Impatient 3rd parties, Piracy and Sega themselves. The blood is on everybody’s hands.

Regardless though, the Dreamcast will never be forgotten. Happy 12th Dreamcast!

    Another excellent video man…

I love my Dreamcast. Some of my all time favorite games are on the Dreamcast. House of the Dead 2 (with the light gun), Jet Grind Radio, and Marvel vs Capcom 2.

great videos. I would like to point out that Capcom was a big supporter of the Dreamcast. They released a bunch of great games on it and SF3 3rd strike had better resolution than  the PS2 version.

Also, what is the name of the shooter you’re playing at the end of part 2?

  • Daviljoe193

I love the Dreamcast even though I only have one game for it, which is Sonic Adventure. Also 2 hints of warning, before just saying gimme when looking for a copy of Sonic Adventure 2, ask if the game works, second check every little detail about every single homebrew game you make for your Dreamcast because I ruined one of my Dreamcasts (Yes I now have two) because it was a PAL game (Stupid developers said it was regon free).
