A bit of sad news, it has been released today that Hudson is being “dissolved” into Konami. This officially means that Hudson as we once knew it will no longer be around, though I am sure the main people who made the magic happen with Hudson’s intellectual properties will still be working with Konami. As a retro gamer it is weird to think that the company that made such greats as Bomberman, Adventure Island, the Bonk series, and was apart of the development of the very under appreciated console the PC Engine/Turbografx 16 will be gone in the modern gaming era.
Besides the shock of seeing the classic game franchise’s fate being held by Konami or that they will be Konami branded when we see them again; popular modern franchises such as Mario Party will no longer have the Hudson name behind them. Truly a sad day in retro gaming history, let us all bow our head for the death of a classic gaming company. I guess now I’ll never see Milon in another game for a proper sequel to DoReMi Fantasy or Milon’s Secret Castle.
Hudson agreed to the move during a board meeting on January 12th which was a move already in motion from Konami buying a majority share of Hudson in April of 2011. Konami was quoted at that time as saying it ”expects its acquisition of additional shares will strengthen Hudson’s net worth and will support and enhance its organisation.”
