This month is 12 years since the Dreamcast was released. To celebrate the anniversary of the Dreamcast Kevin checks a game that was a launch title for the Dreamcast in the US, Soul Calibur.
SoulCalibur is a great game. It’s still my favorite fighter.
Yes, I am increibly cheap and use Kilik.

Yeah, this game certainly aged well. The soundtrack is great to. I bought the CD.
The graphics are still beautiful looking.
I like to play Mitsurugi as well. He’s always the go-to guy for me.

Soul Calibur is just a Tekken clone with weapons.

Yeah, umm no.

Soul Blade/Edge was more of a Tekken Clone with weapons. Tekken 4 was more of a Soul Calibur clone with fists. They’re pretty much their own beyond that.

I’ll never forget the first time I witnessed Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast… it was almost a religious experience being that it was *exactly* like the arcade version: gameplay, graphics, sound, everything. It was truly the first time I had seen an 100% straight-up port of something that advanced.

Yeah it is a pretty incredible experience coming from Saturn/PS1/N64 graphics to Dreamcast full on arcade visuals. I think actually the Dreamcast port is even more polished than the original Arcade even. The system was such a game changer (bah dum crash).

Yeah if you look at the footage from the arcade version, you’ll see that the Dreamcast version looks a hell of a lot better.

i never had the opportunity to had to play soul caliber on the original dreamcast, but eventually when i play soul caliber II in the arcade and eventually on the ps2, it was just amazing. didn’t play that much of III or IV. may pick up V when it comes out next year, but i’m still on the fence on that. my favorite character is nightmare.

That’s right – we here at Retroware TV keep strict rules on what can and can’t be reviewed. Just this discussion alone puts all of you on notice.
