RetroActive – Luigi’s Mansion

For this years RetroActive Halloween Special Kevin checks out Luigi’s Mansion! It may not be an actual retro title but it is a great Halloween game and with a sequel coming out on the 3DS there isn’t a better time to check this Gamecube launch title out.

Great knowledge, good flow, confident speech – the only negative feedback i have for you is that your hand-talk is incredibly distracting. it’s a consistant bounce movement that doesn’t contribute to the points you convey – other than that – great work.

Man, this is like the 5th Luigi’s Mansion retrospective I see this year for Halloween. Apparently the announcement for Luigi’s Mansion 2 really inspired people.
For everything you said about the achievements, you missed something. The ghost portraits would change depending on how well you did beating that particular ghost. If you sucked it up in one try you’d get the best painting, if you sucked away 50 of it’s points away you’d get a different one and there was a third one for either 30 or 10 points (can’t remember). You could tell what kind of level you got by the background on the painting behind the ghost.

I’m not surprised. I don’t really keep up with anyone off site so I have yet to see anyone else’s take on the game.

I did mention that the painting themselves change but you are right I didn’t go into that much detail.

I played this game for the first time a few weeks ago. I really liked it. I love the goofy spooky atmosphere.

its a game that people will either love or hate, but i agree with you billy its a fun game :)

Cut the first minute. I’m tired of kids trying to inject personality into their reviews. It’s grown stale. Just review the game, and dedicate less screen time to your face. Oh, and it’s pronounced “Kahn-soul” not council.

I disagree. What sets some game reviews apart from others are the personalities of who is reviewing them. Retro game reviews are for the most part entirely pointless. The games have been out for years and rarely are they used to see if a game is worth buying or renting. A little personality from the reviewer, including jokes and sometimes skits, turns the video into entertainment. That makes it much more of an enjoyable watch than simple information.

It’s great entertainment, when they’re good at it. Not when it’s just regurgitated tripe that’s been done to death by their betters. Then it’s just insulting to watch.

Awesome review, Kevin. You put the entire game into perspective really well, and now I want to play it. Time to bust out the ‘Cube, I suppose, and track down a copy!

This is a great review — just a really well done review.  I should pick this up – I have never played it.

This was a fun game and kudos to Nintendo for trying something different for a launch title. Good video.

i got this game when i bought my cube back then and i must say i loved playing every minute of it.Also the fact that for one’s Luigi came in the spots with a good game not something like “Mario is Missing”. I remember i collected everything in it , and for me to go for 100% in a game is rare :p . This game is a must play for young and old. Great review for a great game , keep it up i would say :)
