Pat The NES Punk – Mr. Gimmick

They call me “Neocasko”, not “Sparky”. Playing the game for real just means playing the game itself IMO. I don’t give a crap about the hardware and I am not a purist like you. I am an emulation guru, not a hardware one. Don’t even try to convince me on not using emulators that because you will be wasting your time. As for the save states. I never said I needed them. It was for the guy I was suggesting them to. Please pay attention next time before you jump to the wrong conclusion. I know it’s you Pat. I will talk to you like I will talk to anyone. No hate. Just an FYI. 

That’s Neocasko to you. And As I told you before, don’t even bother talking to me about emulation. I don’t give a crap about your say in it. And I am not named “Bill” or “Fred”. I’m an  Nigerian American. Nice try buddy. What I mean by a guru is one who knows a lot more the idea and the controversy behind it as well as understanding them. 

And please, stop with your crap. I never insulted you before and I don’t feel in the mood to argue with someone who I don’t think will ever understand my ideals.

I don’t think so. He just seems to think that Pat is a bit stubborn. Reading the comments, I can’t blame the guy for being like this. I certainly would be mad.

You know what? I think the whole “save state” issue is ridiculous. 

“I use emulation, but even I know that save states are for wimps, end of story.”

I call BS on that claim…sorta. There are some games out there that can really use save states. The action-adventure types like Rygar for the NES for example. Ones that should have a way to save, but don’t have battery packs or even passwords to save your progress.

While using save states can be unfair sometimes, it’s okay if you feel that it makes the game more tolerable or enjoyable to you. End of story. 

I got to agree with Pat on this one. I lost my collection in 2003, ok that start to be a redundant story, but yeah, it was a big retro game collection. Since then I gave in to emulation, yes, I liked save states only for the fact that my emulators crashed often. Anyway, now that I started recollecting, I played Mother 2 on both emulation and my SNES, as well as Chrono Trigger, or any other games, and the feel is so much different. Not being tempted by save states, holding the good ol’ SNES controller, the feeling of having the physical game and you worked to get that cart, to see that cart on the shelve rather than a file in a directory, all those are feelings that made me delete my whole ROMS collection. Even virtual console doesn’t cut it for me, because it’s not like the real game. It’s not really emulation, yet it’s not like having the game. I’m entitled to your opinion, you have the right of having your opinion about emulation because I am guilty as charged to have used it. I, personally, just want to have the actual thing, rather than a virtual file and play as the game is meant to be, not what it can be modified to be.

So, no offense to you Neocasko, I totally respect your opinion, I am just stating my feelings about actual game VS emulation and I did agree with Pat. But then, I am a collector, so those are the feelings I got and we just don’t share the same point of view.

Dude, do you know about respect? No wonder Neocasko is mad with you. This response made you look like a complete jerk! 

It really depends on how you use it. It’s a tool.

This is quite a large amount of anger and energy in regard to the topic of emulation.  It’s a controversial issue but i say we all save some of that energy for stuff that matters.  Like almost anything else.
