In an very unsurprising statement Iwata has said “I think there could be a Nintendo 3DS software title which does not use the 3D feature at all”. Wii titles eventually didn’t use motion controls and DS titles didn’t always use the stylus so to think that not all 3DS games will be based around 3D technology is to be expected. Some games may want to worry more about a higher frame rate, using more motion controls, or other features the rather powerful 3DS could push out.
The 3DS has always had the option to turn 3D off but even so some people are still not ready to accept the new 3D technology and for others it just doesn’t work anyway (or if it does some others also report headaches). The 3DS obviously hasn’t been selling as well as Nintendo would have liked, the new price drop showing that, so these statements from Iwata are likely just to ease some minds about the future of the 3DS.
Iwata’s Full Statement:
“I think there could be a Nintendo 3DS software title which does not use the 3D feature at all, and I believe Nintendo will develop such software. Instead, other features of the Nintendo 3DS should be focused on. It might be a communication feature, or other functions (such as the gyro sensor or the motion sensor). The important thing is that each respective software title has its own characteristics, and appeals to the consumers in a way that fits the software.”
