Kirby series creator and Smash Bros. mastermind Masahiro Sakurai has made some comments recently regarding work on the new Wii U/3DS entry in Nintendo's crossover fighting series. Until now his focus has been entirely on development of Kid Icarus: Uprising, but now all the design work for that title has been finished.
Funny enough, he's looked back on design documents and the like for Smash Bros. Brawl and has stated his surprise that he and his team were able to complete it. Just makes one wonder how feature-packed the new one will be.

I seemed to be one of the few who really didn't mind Brawl. I never quite understood everyone's issues with the stages/controls/characters etc. The game felt pretty regular to me. I could see the differences, sure, but nothing that broke the game. Having a portable version of this series for the first time is what really excites me. Just another reason I should probably pick up a 3DS soon. =-)

I think it's because people felt like it wasn't a large enough step forward. It wasn't because it was missing new features or anything like that, it just felt like Melee compared to 64 was such an enormous leap forward … that Brawl compared to Melee felt like more of a standard iteration.
I actually think the Adventure mode in Melee was far superior to the emissary mode in Brawl. The fighting, overall feels the same, but the super smash really unbalanced things (further) and lots of people had connection problems with the online.
However, I think the biggest thing is … I've never been able to get a group of people together to sit down and play Brawl. 64 and Melee it was no issue … but no one wants to play Brawl.
So, it's not bad. (obviously it's not bad) … it's just maybe … not as good as people were expecting after Melee came out and floored everyone's expectations.

Good point Crono. Perhaps an example of over-hyping a game? One thing I always try to do is not allow myself to get TOO excited or games. When I do, I almost always end up disappointed (i.e. RE5, UFC3, etc.)
At this point I could care less about the Wii-U version of SSB, because I really don't see me getting a Wii-U. When the Wii was released, I knew I'd own one…eventually. It took me about 3 years to make that happen. The Wii offered me nothing special. I thought I'd be into the Virtual Console, but everything just feels overpriced a majority of the time. And it just isn't the same as playing the real thing.
Now the 3DS version…THAT'S another story. I'm definitely excited to play SSB on-the-go.

Well I enjoyed SSBB very much. Fans should take what they can get and stop crying over what the game should have been.
