Hello…I’m D-Pad.
With a new site upon us, I figured I’d go ahead and experiment with the Blog Submission feature here on retrowaretv.com. This will be my first blog, probably not my last, but will also be a small review. The title says it all…D-Pad’s Joystick Reviews…kind of a silly name, I know. That’s the point really because I’m not exactly a serious kinda guy. This review will be written in a very unprofessional manner. I tend to type the way I speak…I also enjoy reading text messages or forum post by people that are typed in a way that they read naturally, instead of grammatically correct at all circumstances. I’m not going for professionalism here, but more for just a quick/fun review to check out.

So to begin, my first game will be God of War HD for the Playstation 3.

I picked up the God of War: Collection used at a Game Stop several months ago. I rarely buy games used, but at the time I was not a fan of the series & figured I could use this as a way of discovering whether or not I really wanted to give the series a fair shake or not. So I plopped down my 20 bucks & I was outta there.

When I finally got around to starting the game…I was unimpressed. The storyline, which I’ve heard people go on & on about it being sOoOoOo incredible…is garbage. Kratos? Completely unlikable. Why would I like or sympathize for a guy who is a horrible human being? I mean seriously, the dude is an arrogant asshole. lol as one of my best pal’s Itsayatta said, “The guy can kill thousands of people without blinking an eye. But he cries about having some bad dreams every night?” Yeah…doesn’t make much sense there.

The enemies felt uninspired…nothing there really. I mean, they’re okay…they get the job done, but the line-up seems to pick up speed with Medusas…then goes back down with Ox-Men…or whatever. Then Sirens…back to random soldiers, but now with scythes & shadow abilities. Once in awhile the Gods shine upon us & grant us with an awesome Cyclops!…then you wait another hour & a half of gameplay before you can fight another. So yeah, not much there.

Music is basic and uninspired…just bland. There is maybe one catchy tune in the entire game.

Graphics, I mean…they’re okay I suppose. They get the job done. From what I understand, at the time, they were incredible…however I feel that Final Fantasy X beats this game in graphics in every aspect…whether its cutscenes, NPCs, during gameplay….FFX wins.

Then we have the gameplay…THIS is why God of War is as popular as it is. WOW this game is addicting! The mechanics aren’t even complex or deep, but yet…SO much fun! There is a saying “Brevity is the soul of wit.”…which is why my reviews will be short. ;-) I also feel though…that if a game can be simple yet addictive or fun…then THAT is the soul of wit…for gaming…yeah anyway.

The game is FUN! So much fun in fact that you forget about how lame & stupid Kratos is fairly quickly and the ass of a story. The music? What music? Who cares about stupid music when you’re crammin’ chain blades down fools throats?! THIS is what GoW does to’ya. It makes you say, Alright alright alright…fuck that other shit…now lets kill some bad guys! The game is fun…end of story.

Would I suggest it to action fans? Hell fuckin’ yes! Check it out. I’m sure you could find the PS2 version for booty cheap, but I’d suggest nabbin’ up this HD version as its a pretty freakin’ good deal. GoW1 AND 2…shoot son, sign me up!

So there’ya have it…I…RECOMMEND God of War 1 HD!
In case that coding didn’t make recommend bold…well…it was supposed to. lol

Thanks for reading guys and until next time, I’ll see’ya on the forums!
