The decision came down this week that Phoenix Wright 5, now titled Ace Attorney – Dual Destines for North America and Europe, will be released this Fall but as a digital download only. Capcom couldn’t find the feasibility or the business justification for eating all that cost to allow for a physical release.

On any given day, if you were to ask me what my favorite game series of all time is, I may say the Ace Attorney series.  Not having a physical copy to fit in with my collection is a bit disheartening.  But back in the day, the Japanese releases of Ace Attorney would always arrive months ahead of the NA releases and almost always include the English Language version built in – thanks “no region lockout” early Nintendo DS!  And since Gyukaten Saiban 5 will have a beautiful physical release in Japan, hey, maybe it’s worth it!  http://www.e-capcom.com/gyakutensaiban/5/

Other than the upcoming PW5,  the 2010 Professor Layton/Phoneix Wright crossover and Miles Edgeworth: Ace Investigations 2 have yet to receive English translations.  With any luck, perhaps the digital only model for Dual Destinies will convince the creators to find some justification to approach these titles again.

So how do you feel about Ace Attorney 5?  Will you be importing the Japanese version? When will we see Miles Edgeworth 2 or the Layton crossover?  Will I ever be satisfied?!

And lucky you (if you read Japanese), you can play a web-based demo of the game right here http://www.capcom.co.jp/gyakutensaiban/5/trial/index.html
